BENICIA PELICAN LOG

2007

Text Box:

August 14, 2007 (2 pm)

Just before 2pm we saw two flying west over Southampton Bay.  Then, just after 2pm, we saw a flock of six overhead as we drove north on East Second, just before Rose Drive.  Directly overhead, Mary Susan was able to see their legs and feet tucked into their bellies.

August 4, 2007

We saw them for the fourth day in a row.  That much we remember, but we didn’t make a note, and can’t recall how many or where ....

August 3, 2007 (1:09pm)

Talking to R on the phone, (he was at Z & Matt’s house), MS looked up from her computer having just written an email to Julianne, and saw a flock of 6 to 9.  From the kitchen and driveway, she saw them first almost over the house, then moving west and north.  Then she saw another flock, a huge number, maybe 30 of them.  The two groups wheeled and merged, visible for quite a while, a great show!  R could also see both flocks from East E Street!

August 2, 2007 (about 9:30am) Vaughn’s birthday

Setting out from home to the hospital for Vaughn’s birth, R saw two floating on Southampton Bay.

August 1, 2007 (about 11am)

R, pulling Little Blue over to put the top down on East Military, spotted a flock over west Benicia, and phoned MS at home.  She saw them moving west and north.  R could see them as he made his way down First Street, glancing west down each side street.  Sharing the news at Café Voltaire, Jan said R should get pictures and put them on the website.

July 24, 2007 (11:55am)

MS saw 9 of them circling in the sky, north of 780 and east of the Southampton exit.

July 18, 2007 (12:25pm)

We saw two floating on Southampton Bay at low tide, first sighting all spring and summer!  Then a few minutes later, we saw a flock of about 25 wheeling high over the Southampton Hills, possibly as far north as Lake Herman.

January 22, 2007 (9:19am)

MS sighted 4 of them flying north over the Southampton shopping center.
