R & MS saw two white pelicans floating close to shore between the 9th Street Park and Matthew Turner Park. We walked from Commodore Jones Point to get a closer look, but when we got to West 10th, the bird had traded places with us, landing on a rock just off the point. Both birds, and a third one, flew off to the west, gliding low over the water into Southampton Bay.

July 4, 2011 (Noon - 12:30pm)
R & MS saw 3 white pelicans floating in Southampton Bay; first one, then all three took flight, spiralled to get height, then soared high above West K and the wetlands. Around the same time, we saw 4 others in the distant sky, also playing on the currents above the Bay and wetlands. We drove downtown, and around 12:30pm, we saw 1 lone pelican on the island at the foot of First Street.

We drove downtown, and at 11am, we saw 1 lone pelican on the island at the foot of First Street.
