PLEASE CIRCULATE WIDELY
Friends,
In collaboration
with the national Leonard Peltier Defense Committee, for the
14th year, there will be a "fast
for justice" between October 1 and 12th to demand Leonard's
release and the renaming of October 12th "Indigenous People's
Day."
2005 is the thirtieth year of Leonard's
imprisonment for a crime he did not commit. The government has
admitted in open court that they cannot prove that he was responsible
for the death of two FBI agents on June 26, 1975 during a shoot-out
on the Pine Ridge reservation in South Dakota.
Leonard continues to stay strong behind
bars. We must stay strong out here working for justice, peace,
human rights and in defense of our seriously threatened ecosystem.
We must be visible and active during this October time period
when the reality of this country's genocidal actions against
Indigenous Peoples comes to the surface because of the Columbus
Day holiday.
I have been in discussions with the leadership
of the Leonard Peltier Defense Committee about this fast. They
intend to do active outreach within their network to find additional
fasters and to play an active role in the lead-up to October
12th and the local actions that will be happening in different
parts of the country around that time.
Please be in touch if you will be joining
this year's fast, whether for one, 12 or some other number of
days, whether on water-only or juices and teas.
In solidarity,
Ted Glick
