The Computer Doctors

Review by Rick Ernst, November, 2007

Whenever my computer goes on the blink, I am at a complete and utter loss as to what to do. I love my computer and hate my computer. I purchased my laptop just over a year ago and, for some reason beyond me, it has become slower and slower. My Comcast high-speed Internet service does not seem to be the problem -- it apparently has to do with the number of programs that boot-up when I turn the power on.

So, I came home from work Thursday evening and turned my computer on as I normally do. As mentioned, I have a laptop and my wife has a tower. I was able to connect a wireless router to my Comcast high-speed modem so we can log onto the Internet. Well, out Out of the blue, my computer would not connect to the Internet. I called Comcast who spent an hour with me trouble-shooting, during which time we discovered that my wife's computer connected to the Internet, but, alas, not my computer.

Finally, Comcast said that it wasn't the cable, and recommended that I call the manufacturer. Of course, after maneuvering through the maze of telephone robots, I finally got a customer service person, I believe in Asia, who checked my computer serial number and explained to me that I was "out of warranty" and would need to pay $100 to talk to a technician. I hung up!

Then, I remembered that I had met a fellow Benician who had mentioned THE COMPUTER DOCTORS, Dan and Jorge, who are located Downtown at East 'G' and First. My other options for computer repair are in Vallejo or I can call the Geeks that drive the Volkswagens -- they charge BIG BUCKS to talk to you, although, I must admit, when my computer breaks, I'm willing to pay BIG BUCKS to get it fixed. But, I like to "Put my money where my house is!" and keep it in Benicia whenever possible.

At any rate, I stopped in Friday afternoon to see Dan and Jorge and, voila, they were open. I explained my predicament, and, at no charge, they diagnosed the possible issues. In the middle of it, they revamped my computer and switched out my virus software which sped up my computer considerably, provides better protection, and is FREE, so I save $79 per year to keep the nasty viruses out of my computer.

I can only say that if you have a problem with your computer, call The Computer Doctors – 638 1st St, 747-0417 – the only computer repair in town of which I am aware. They offer discounts for military and seniors and, they'll come to your home if you live in Benicia or Vallejo for a fee much less than the Volkswagen crew.

I've very happy to have these experts in my town. They made my day!
