Sacred Runners Visit Louisiana’s Houma Nation
Melinda Tuhus reports from Golden Meadow, Louisiana, on Free Speech Radio News (http://www.fsrn.org/)
Monday, April 03, 2006

"An annual Native American sacred run themed 'Running for Peace and Mother Earth' added a third goal this year for hurricane recovery. Runners and walkers took a detour of almost a thousand miles from their normal cross-country route to visit the Houma Tribal Nation in the bayous of southern Louisiana. There, they learned about the devastation caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and about the role of the oil and gas industry in the disenfranchisement of the native people."

Dennis Banks speaking about Sacred Run 2006
Recorded at the Roxie, San Francisco, February 2, 2006 by Marie Gilardin of TUC Radio, www.tucradio.org.
This is a moving, unedited, 27 minute speech on the origins of the run, the way walking changes people's lives, Native American land rights, the names of the many tribes that will host the walk along the way, the occupation of Alcatraz, his time in prison, and his meeting with Cindy Sheehan when he joined her in Crawford. This is an appeal to join, meet or support the walk.
