FOR RELEASE February 11, 2008 Public Advocate Linda Seifert Announces Bid For County Supervisor, Vallejo, CA—Linda Seifert, a public advocate from Fairfield, will officially announce her candidacy for the Solano County Board of Supervisors District 2 seat at 11:30 am today, in front of the public library in Downtown Vallejo (550 Santa Clara Street). Seifert will challenge the re-election of three term incumbent John Silva in the June 3rd election. Seifert serves as the president of her neighborhood association, on the board of the Solano County Library Foundation, and as a Board Member for Child Haven, an organization which serves the needs of battered and neglected children. She says her campaign will be about refocusing the priorities of County government, so that it is once again in line with the interests of the community. “I come to the race for County Supervisor as a public advocate, not a career politician backed special interests,” Seifert says. “My interest is in restoring integrity and accountability to our county government and in improving the lives of the citizens that live here.” The District 2 seat on the County Board of Supervisors covers the cities of Benicia and Vallejo, and parts of Fairfield. Already, Seifert has secured endorsements for her campaign from a wide array of elected officials and community leaders from these cities. Vallejo City Councilmember Joanne Schivley, an early endorser of Seifert’s campaign, says “I am supporting Linda for Supervisor because she will work closely with Vallejo, and give us more local control over growth in the part of Vallejo that is in District 2." Rod Boschee, a former Vallejo City Councilmember and backer of Seifert’s campaign, initially considered running for the District 2 Supervisor’s seat himself. "I seriously considered running for Solano County Supervisor in the Second District, because John Silva just isn’t representing the interests of Vallejo” Boschee says. “However, after talking to Linda Seifert, I determined that she can address all of my concerns for the future of Solano County quite well. Linda will be a strong advocate for reducing urban sprawl, expanding and preserving our parks and open space, and dealing with air quality concerns that are affecting the health of our children and elderly. I’m pleased to be supporting her candidacy.” Another strong supporter of Seifert’s candidacy is Vallejo businessman and former Benicia Mayor Jerry Hayes. He says that current District 2 Supervisor John Silva is extremely out of touch with local business interests. “It’s pretty astonishing how little John Silva has done to help our local economy,” says Hayes. “In these times of economic downturn, I know I’m certainly not alone in wishing that local government would just do something. I know Linda Seifert will work tirelessly to strengthen Vallejo’s economy, and that’s why she has my vote for Supervisor.” Seifert says that the early support she has seen from elected officials and local leaders throughout the District is a good indicator for the potential of her campaign. “I think our communities are ready for change, ready for County government to start working on our side again,” says Seifert. The voters of Solano County will make that decision on Tuesday, June 3rd. Currently, Solano County elected officials endorsing Linda Seifert’s campaign include:
