Linda Seifert for Supervisor

Candidate enters Board of Supervisors race
By Barry Eberling | DAILY REPUBLIC | February 11, 2008

FAIRFIELD - Green Valley resident Linda Seifert wants to wrest incumbent John Silva's 2nd District seat on the Solano County Board of Supervisors.

The retired attorney and current president of the Green Valley Landowners Association will be a candidate in the June 3 election. Silva has already announced he will seek a fourth term.

Seifert listed a variety of issues she sees as important during a Monday afternoon campaign kickoff and press conference in front of the Fairfield-Cordelia library. Among them are proposed county General Plan revisions she said move away from the county policy of having most development occur within cities.

'I do not believe the Board of Supervisors should be in the development business,' Seifert said.

Another concern is the board's recent decision to spend state tobacco settlement money on buildings instead of health programs, she said.

If elected, Seifert said she would vote against the proposed Rockville Trails Estates development near Green Valley unless it conforms to the General Plan. She added that Board of Supervisors meetings should be held at times and places convenient for citizens.

The 2nd District in central Solano County covers only the Cordelia and Green Valley areas. Most of the district and its voters are concentrated in the Benicia and Vallejo areas in the south county.

Seifert said she has spent a lot of time meeting people in Benicia and Vallejo and would be present in those communities as a supervisor.

A few dozen supporters attended her candidacy announcement, among them former Fairfield councilman Jack Batson and former county supervisor Duane Kromm.

Two other board seats will be on the June 3 ballot. Supervisors Barbara Kondylis has announced she will try to retain the 1st District seat representing much of Vallejo. Supervisor Mike Reagan and former supervisor Skip Thomson are running for the 5th District seat, which includes Dixon, Rio Vista and parts of Vacaville and Suisun City.
