2018 has been another unusual year in Benicia, with very few appearances of the American White Pelican. Same in 2017 - second year in a row. We are wondering whether it signals a decrease in population, changes in migration patterns, something related to climate change or availability of food...?

On the east-bound Military West exit ramp from 780, I spotted 6 White Pelicans flying toward us, in a westerly direction. They flew directly overhead. While Mary Susan observed from the moon roof, I snapped pictures through the windshield and leaning out the driver side window. Somehow, my phone camera malfunctioned, and I have nothing to show. Darn! This was one of only 2 or 3 sightings for the entire year.
